Wind-turbine service technicians


Wind turbine service technicians, also known as windtechs, install, maintain, and repair wind turbines. Wind turbines are large mechanical devices that convert wind energy into electricity. They are usually installed in places where there is consistent wind. The turbine is made up of three major parts: a tower, three blades, and a box called nacelle. The nacelle houses the generator, turbine, gearbox, and brakes. Wind turbine service technicians install and repair the various components of these structures.Although some windtechs are involved in building new wind turbines, most of their work is in maintaining them, particularly the nacelles, which contain the equipment that generates electricity.

The Wind-Turbine service technicians work outdoors. Their work requires climbing and working from a hieght of more than 4 storey building. This professions is physically demanding and not suitable for people without stamina and who are afraid of height.
